This flower beaded box pattern is part of an exploration for me. I realised that you can do so much with the basic beaded box once you ‘think outside the box’! So, keep reading to find out what I mean…

Materials

The flower beaded box is made entirely with size 11 Delicas. Hooray, you shout! Yes, I love using the slightly larger size 10s for my beaded boxes. But sometimes small is beautiful. So, the finished size of the box storage space is around 1.5″ x 1.5″. The box appears larger because of the leaves and petals sticking out.

You probably already have a great stash of size 11 Delicas. But if you do need to top up, you can find my stock here>>

You also need whichever beading thread will give you the best tension. For me, this is Fireline. But everyone has their own preference, so just go with yours!

Experience and Techniques

The flower beaded box uses Peyote stitch. So, you will get to know the circular and tubular variations. Plus some even count and the diamond variation. I have assumed that you have already done some Peyote stitch before. So, if you need any extra help, please use the free tutorials that I have on this website.

This is an intermediate to advanced project. The techniques are fairly straightforward, but you are going to find yourself squeezing through some tricky beads. I have included diagrams to help explain the written text.

About the flower beaded box

So, what did I mean about ‘thinking outside the box’? Well, consider the box as a starting point. Whether you have a rounded shape, like this, or a square, what can you do to extend it?

For me, the rounded shape is like the centre of a flower. So, all I needed to do was think about petals. Then, this beaded flower box came to life.

You can colour this in so many ways. I didn’t have a specific flower in mind when I made it. So, don’t try to make this ‘real’ – just enjoy the adventure of discovering your own colour scheme. I have included the bead colours that I used. So, if you’re not feeling brave, you can just make one identical to mine!

Although, yours will not be truly identical because my box includes a spirit bead that changed everything. Want to know more? Well, you’ll have to purchase the pattern to read the rest of the story…!

Oh, and if this reminds you of something, this flower beaded box also develops the beaded wrist corsage I made a few years back. You can get that pattern here>>
