These beaded box baubles are a double delight! Pretty beaded ornaments for your tree. Plus, hide a little gift inside for someone special. So, keep reading to find out how that works…

Materials

I made my beaded box baubles with size 11 Delicas. You will want at least two colours. I have actually included several different pattern options in this tutorial. So, this could be an opportunity for you to use up some odds and ends.

You also need a beading thread that is strong and will give you good tension. My thread of choice is Fireline. But everyone has different preferences. So, if you find another thread that works better for you, feel free to use it.

If you need more information about beading threads, check out this blog>>

Experience and Techniques

The beaded box baubles are made using Peyote stitch. You are going to be working in circular and tubular variations. I have assumed that you are already familiar with the technique. But if you do need a reminder, or to learn, you can download this tutorial for free to get you started.

I recommend this project for advanced beaders – or at least, those who are very confident. There are a few tricky patches when it comes to assembling your beaded bauble. Having said that, my tutorial includes lots of diagrams to illustrate thread paths, and close up photos to sit alongside the written instructions. So, if you are good at following instructions, you should be able to complete this at any level.

How do the beaded box baubles work?

So, I said at the start, these beaded box baubles give you two great elements in one design. The baubles are structured in two halves with a hinge so they will open and close. This allows you to hide a little gift inside. Each bauble has a diameter of almost 3″ (8cm). So, it will conceal a small bag of beads or sweets, or the kind of little gift you might get in a cracker.

Then, just use a name tag to fasten the bauble closed. Hang it on your Christmas tree and everyone will know who the bauble is for!

This is the perfect Christmas ornament if you are entertaining. You could even give the baubles to your guests if you’re feeling generous! Or, keep them to re-use year after year…You simply need to change the name tag!

You can also personalise your beaded box baubles with different colouring or patterns. The tutorial tells you how to do this and includes five different pattern designs from me. Plus, blank graph paper so you can design your own pattern.
