About the Beaded Cupcakes
The cupcakes kit contains thread plus 30g of beads (Delicas in size 10 and seed beads in sizes 8 and 11). The kit includes mauve and pink icing. If you wish to have icing in a different colour, please include a note with your order or email me with your colour request. The kit uses a combination of brick stitch and circular and tubular Peyote stitch.
I recommend this kit for intermediate to advanced beaders. You will need a copy of Sweet Treats book to get the instructions for making the cupcakes. The book includes a chapter covering the techniques. However, if you need some extra help, you can find a free tutorial for tubular and circular Peyote stitch here. If you need help with tubular and circular brick stitch, then you can find a tutorial for that here.
History and Important Information
I love cupcakes! I spent a lot of time trying to create the perfect pattern to feature them in Sweet Treats book. Having experimented with a couple of different cupcake patterns in the past, I wasn’t quite happy with the way they turned out. Ideally, I wanted to use brick stitch to create the cake base. However, I also really needed to use Peyote stitch for the icing. Although the two stitches are near relatives, they don’t naturally work together in their tubular forms. So, I was a little stumped for a while.
Eventually I had one of those Eureka moments where everything became clear and my idea worked out! So, not only did I end up with a great project for the book, I also learned some useful technical stuff in the process. I turned my cupcakes into a charm bracelet. If you like big earrings, then the cupcakes also work for these. Or you can just display them on a plate if you prefer.
