This hot dog pattern is great fun to make, so read on for the important details before you buy the pattern.

Materials and Techniques

You will be working in Peyote stitch. I have assumed that you are comfortable with the technique. But if you do need a refresher, you can find some free tutorials on this website.

This pattern is for anyone who enjoys Peyote.

The hot dog is made using the following materials

  • size 11 delicas
  • seed beads in size 11
  • your choice of thread (I used Fireline)
  • beading needle and scissors

Hot Dog

I designed the hot dog when I was making a necklace for a competition. The competition theme was ‘around the world’. Now, if you know me, then you know how much beaded food I’ve created!

So, for some reason, I decided to pick a destination of New York. I focused on the street food there. So, hot dogs, burgers, bagels and pretzels.

My necklace reached the finals of the competition. So, I was pretty pleased with that. But more than that, I just had so much fun creating this. I enjoyed coming up with the ideas. Then working out how to make them in beads.

When I designed this, I had already published Sweet Treats book. So, the lessons I had learned from writing that informed a lot of the design process here.

I also love working in Peyote stitch. I find it is so versatile and great for making three-dimensional projects. So, I used a particular variation when I created the hot dog design. If you are into geometric beading, then this hot dog pattern is actually based on geometric shapes!

I used delicas for this because they shape so well. Also, they have a great range of colours. So, when you are beading food, it is really important to get the colouring right so the food will look recognisable. I have included the precise delica codes that I used in this pattern. So, you might find something you prefer, but you don’t have to worry about searching!

I hope you enjoy this… My top tip – don’t try beading it when you are hungry!
