About Keepsake Cards

The idea for Keepsake Cards came to mind when I was asked to create a project to feature in the 50th issue of Bead Magazine. I thought it would be great to send them a golden anniversary card to mark the occasion. Then, I realised that this idea had huge potential.

We are often looking for ways to mark a really special occasion and, as beaders, it is always welcome to have a different beading project. So this is it!

Book Details

In the book, I teach you how to make a rectangular card blank in portrait and also in landscape. You will also learn how to make square card blanks.

You are going to be working in different variations of Peyote stitch. This will create cards that are strong enough to support themselves and stand up like a ‘normal’ card. The cards measure about 3″ (8cm) on their longest side, so they are really miniature.

After learning how to make the card blanks, I show you how to add decoration to the front and lettering to the inside. These designs become your ‘Keepsake cards’ that you can personalise for just about any occasion.

More design ideas

I have included nine complete projects, but the Keepsake Cards book is really about giving you the tools you need to design your own. So you will find plenty of additional ideas for adding patterns to your card blanks, or different designs for card fronts. I have also included a full alphabet and numbers in both Peyote stitch and Square/Herringbone so you can create your own messages.

The book also includes blank pattern paper so you can design your own decorations. Plus lots of handy tips to help you create designs that will work well.

I have also included a gallery section to show you how the Keepsake cards can be adapted for other purposes. Maybe you want some Christmas decorations? You could try adding three-dimensional decoration. Or, if you want to be adventurous, use the techniques to create a complete little beaded book!

One of the gallery ideas is a beaded locket which I had originally thought of including in the book. In the end I decided to write it up as a separate pattern. So, if you want to try a sample in this style before committing to the book, then grab the locket pattern.

Keepsake Cards will inspire you and keep you busy with a never-ending stack of projects. So, your friends and family will enjoy wonderful beaded keepsakes to commemorate their special occasions.

  1. I purchased the keepsake cards book, together with free locket pattern. I haven’t had a chance to make anything yet but there are some lovely projects in the book.
