My World of Beads: Focus on Peyote Stitch

Peyote stitch was the very first bead-weaving technique that I learned, but I still remember the confusion I felt when I first entered the world of beads. Since the start of 2014, I have been working on another website: My World of Beads. I began work on this as I found myself repeatedly being asked about tools, beads, techniques, my design process, how to sell work, and many other things as I was teaching classes. I vividly remembered the days when I started out and had no idea about any of the tools or materials I found in bead shops. So My World of Beads presents my knowledge, recommendations for suppliers, bead shows, magazines and other resources, all in one single site.

I know that not everyone has access to the internet, or likes using the internet whilst they are beading, so I thought it would be a great idea to turn some of the resources on this website into a series of booklets. This particular title gives a great reference point for starting out in bead-weaving.

What’s in the book?

You will find articles that explain peyote stitch and give you tips and tricks for using the stitch successfully. I also take a look at some of the tools and materials that you might find useful. There is an article about pricing your work for sale. All of this material is included on the website and is elaborated on there.

However, this booklet also gives you three projects to start you on your peyote stitch journey. The projects range in difficulty level, so you can start simple and work up to a more advanced project. Start first with the simple Polka Dot bracelet, then learn tubular Peyote with my easy bangles. Progress to put these skills to good use with my Chocolate Gateau slice key ring – all the projects are shown in the photos here. The Polka Dot bracelet is not available anywhere else. The peyote bangles are available as a kit, as is the chocolate gateau slice.

If you happen to take a class with me in person, I will have copies of my Peyote Stitch booklet with me. You can buy a copy here, direct from the printer – there are more details below, including a preview of a few sample pages. You can link from there to place an order direct with the printer…just follow the shopping cart icon below the book preview, or buy direct from me here by clicking on the ‘Add to Basket’ option under the short description above.
