Basic French Beading Pattern

This basic French beading pattern introduces two of the easiest techniques for making quick and simple flowers. You will also learn about the history of French beading and gain some familiarity with the tools you will need to use.

The basic French Beading Pattern teaches you how to make simple five petal flowers, just as a child might draw. It goes on to teach you how to use a simple loop technique to make clover flowers. You will then make some easy leaves.

All of these flowers can be combined into a very attractive country-style arrangement. If you enjoy this introduction to the craft, then you may be like to take it further. There are plenty more French beading patterns on this website, with more being added all the time. You can also find video demonstrations of all the techniques in my book, ‘Bead Flowers and Wedding Bouquets‘.

What do I need?

These simple flowers were the very first things that I made when I taught myself French Beading, back in 2003. When it came to writing up French Beading patterns and creating tutorials to help other beaders to learn this beautiful craft, it seemed logical to start with these flowers. I still remember feeling all ‘fingers and thumbs’ as I tried to manipulate the wire into my first flower. It took me about an hour, but the sense of achievement I felt at the end of that time was immense!

You will need size 11 seed beads and coloured craft wire to match or tone with your beads. You will also need some floral stem tape, some stiffer lengths of wire and some embroidery silk. I show you how to use these to finish the stems of your French Beaded flowers.

You can buy all these materials at very competitive prices in the beading supplies department. If you have any other questions about this, just get in contact!
