Techniques and Experience

The Tutti Frutti pattern is basically simple stringing. However, the combination of Tila beads and Twin Hole beads makes the thread path a little confusing. So, I recommend this project for those who are used to working with beading patterns and confident in their use of beads.

I fastened the bracelet with a toggle clasp, made from the Twin Hole beads, using peyote stitch.

The project includes fully illustrated instructions. You can easily extend this design to create a necklace.

About the Tutti Frutti Bracelet

Well, you may be asking why I chose the name, Tutti Frutti. The honest answer is, I don’t really know! But something about the colouring just made me think of Tutti Frutti.

So, there you have it! If you have ever tried creating your own designs, then you will know that naming them is usually the biggest challenge. However, to paraphrase Shakespeare, ‘what is in a name anyway?’

So, let’s focus on the beads instead. I am always fascinated by the way in which two-holed beads can be used to create layers and dimensions. In this design, I played around with the different shapes as well. So, you end up with a multi-layered, multi-faceted effect.

It’s fascinating to create and really fun once you get into the swing of the thread paths.

As you can see from my original design, this is also a great project for using up a few leftover beads. You could go for a more subtle colour scheme. Or, you can go completely wild and just finish up lots of coloured tubes. So, I invite you to give this Tutti Frutti bracelet a go and try a little experimentation with your colouring.
