Crystalettes Necklace

For this project, I challenged myself to design an attractive necklace using crystalettes on a budget. This meant sticking to just one pack of crystalettes. So, I used them to add a bit of sparkly embellishment. If you aren’t working to a tight budget, then you can expand this project and make lots of spacers to create a full necklace or bracelet.

The crystalettes spacers look very classy, so I decided to pair them with pearls to give the design timeless elegance.

Colour Tips

Pink is not the colour choice of everyone. Happily, however,  the crystalettes are available in a wide range of colours, so you can match any outfit.

When you are picking colours for this project, start by choosing your crystalettes. Then match the pearls and take the delica colours from this. You can practise applying your colour theory rules here.

If you have chosen warm coloured pearls, then use a warm coloured metal to accentuate them. For cooler colours, the silver finish Duracoat delicas are a great alternative.

Techniques

The spacer beads are made using tubular Peyote stitch.

This is a simple pattern to follow and I have used some clever colour combinations to help you through the trickier bits. So, as long as you are familiar with tubular Peyote, this will be no problem.

If you are still learning this technique, then I have a lovely bangle pattern that is a really, really simple introduction to tubular peyote. So, give that a try first.

Once you have completed the crystalettes spacers, you will be using some very simple jewellery making techniques to construct the necklace.

For the focal section use beadalon, secured with crimps. If you need a guide to working with crimps, I have a free tutorial here. You will also need to choose your own clasp, so if you need any handy hints, this article will help you.
