My ice crystal earrings evolved accidentally. So, what was I trying to make when I stumbled upon this design…?

Materials

To make your own ice crystal earrings, you will need:

  • 4mm pearls
  • Spike beads
  • Size 11 seed beads
  • Size 15 seed beads
  • A pair of earwires
  • Your choice of beading thread

This is basically a bead-weaving project. So, you will just need needle and scissors. You can check my beading supplies for all the materials.

Experience and Techniques

The ice crystal earrings use a combination of beading techniques. You will use Peyote stitch and Right Angle Weave. If these sound unfamiliar to you, then check out my free tutorials. You can download some to help remind you. Or learn the techniques from scratch.

I suggest this pattern is really for people with some experience. The earrings are quick to make, but you may find the Right Angle Weave a little tricky first time around.

About the Ice Crystal Earrings

So, how did this design evolve? Well, I was trying to make a snowflake, using the Spike beads as icicles. I quickly worked out how to capture their tips with beading. However, joining the icicles together proved rather trickier than I have imagined.

So, I kept on trying different experiments. In amongst them, I stumbled upon this design. I thought they would make perfect earrings for the Winter party season. So, instead of un-beading, I finished this one off and wrote the pattern.

You might be pleased to hear, I did eventually make that snowflake. So, keep scrolling down to see how it turned out! Meantime, why don’t you grab a copy of this pattern and wow your friends with your gorgeous new earrings?

In case you’re wondering, they also make beautiful gifts for friends. Plus, why not try a different colour scheme for a completely different look? Let me know what you come up with!
