This beaded butterfly pattern shows you how to make the butterfly that sits on my beehive. So, let me tell you more about it…

Materials

You just need size 11 delicas in black, off-white and orange. I have given you the delica colour codes that I used. But you can use your own colours if you prefer.

Then, you will also need some beading thread of your choice. You should use black and white for this project. The black is for the body and you will need the white (or another neutral colour) for the wings.

You can check out my beading supplies for all these beads if you wish. Although, you probably have them in your stash already. You need less than 5g of each colour.

The finished butterfly is between 1-2″ (3-5cm) across its wingspan.

Experience and Techniques

This beaded butterfly pattern is perfect for intermediate level. You will be using tubular Peyote and also flat Peyote or brick stitch. I have included detailed instructions for the body (tubular Peyote). Plus two pattern charts for the wings. So, as long as you are happy following a pattern chart, this project will be no problem for you.

Most people find it difficult to read a Peyote chart, but these wings will work well stitch in brick stitch. So, you can simply turn the chart around to follow the brick stitch instead. If you need help on any of this, check out my free tutorials. I have tutorials that cover both basic techniques and also show you how to read a chart and how to shape brick stitch.

If you’re new to beading and wondering what these techniques entail, then check out this blog>>

About the Beaded Butterfly Pattern

My beaded butterfly pattern is one of a collection of patterns that include the components I used to make the beehive beaded box I entered into Bead Dreams 2018. So, I have included links to some of the other related patterns down below.

How will you use your butterfly? Well, you could attach a brooch pin and wear it. Or maybe turn it into a pendant (just add a large split ring through which you can thread your chain). Perhaps you use it for embellishment as I did. If you want to find out more about the beehive, then read this>>
