About the Chocolate Gateau Slice
This kit will make a beaded slice of chocolate gateau. It contains Delica beads, seed beads in three sizes, round beads, peanut beads and bugle beads. I have also included a reel of thread.
The cake slice can be turned into a key ring (as shown). Or attach a magnet if you wish to use it as a fridge magnet (NB these attachments are not included). I have also used this pattern to make a handbag charm. Just add a length of chain that you can attach around the handle of a bag.
The pattern is suitable for improvers/intermediate beaders and upwards. I have included photos and diagrams to accompany key steps. You will be working in tubular and circular Peyote. The instructions assume that you already know a certain amount about Peyote stitch. So, if you need a refresher, or if the stitch is new to you, then you might find this free tutorial helpful. It takes you through the basics.
If you like the slice of chocolate gateau, then you might also like to make the full-sized ornamental cake. This uses similar techniques, but the way in which you shape the cake is a little different. You can find the recipe in my book ‘Sweet Treats‘. You can also buy the chocolate gateau cake kit to go with the book.
If you are a fan of making beaded cakes, then you can find plenty of ideas in Sweet Treats book. I have more kits to accompany the book in the kits section on this website. Or, if you just want a pattern, you can find several ‘sweet’ patterns as well. My most popular are the Key Lime Pie and Jammie Dodgers necklaces. Also, the chocolate beaded beads or liquorice allsorts which both make bracelets.
