Experience and Techniques

The Bubblegum netted necklace is made entirely from Netting techniques. So, you are going to learn how to work in tubular netting. Then I show you how to add a glorious, tactile embellishment.

I created the clasp fastening as a feature at the front of the necklace. It is based on a toggle design, but using beaded beads. So, again these are made with netting. I will show you how to create a casing for a wooden bead.

Netting is one of the most simple bead-weaving techniques. So, I love starting beginners with this. It grows fast and is simple to follow. So, you don’t have to be terribly experienced to make this necklace.

Why make the Bubblegum necklace?

Well, this pattern is a great way to learn some basic techniques. So, you can then take these forward and use them in other designs.

You could make jewellery that simply uses the beaded beads on their own.

Then, this netting technique is also wonderful to wear. So, it makes great bracelets as well as necklaces.

I created interest through colouring in this design. So, I used a colour mix called ‘Bubblegum’, which is how the necklace got its name. You can create your own colour mixes. Just buy three or four tubes of beads that look good together and then mix them into a ‘bead soup’.

So, if you don’t like my colour choice, don’t be put off. This necklace looks wonderful in more muted or earthy tones. It works well for sparkly shades. In short, try anything! I guarantee people will give plenty of admiring glances when you wear this.
