Jewellery Techniques Sheet – Free!

If you are wondering how to add a clasp to your jewellery, with a professional finish, then calottes are a great option. They work well for jewellery made with thread. This free jewellery techniques sheet talks about what calottes are and looks at a couple of different varieties. It gives full instructions, illustrated with photos, for using calottes.

As with many other jewellery techniques, calottes are in essence simple to use. However, the trick lies in getting them to sit perfectly next to your beadwork or string of beads. So I would recommend that you find a few old scraps that you can use for practice. Then you can move on to adding calottes to jewellery that you plan to sell.

As soon as I discovered calottes, I began using them almost all the time. I like them for a few reasons. They will allow me to add a clasp in such a way that, if the clasp breaks, I can just replace the clasp. So then I don’t need to re-make my entire piece of jewellery.

Once you have mastered the techniques for adding them, they really are just as easy as stitching straight through a clasp finding. If you want to find out more about choosing clasps, then you can also try my jewellery techniques sheet.

I believe that the basic beading techniques are the fundamentals to all beadwork and you should be able to learn them for free. These techniques are not copyrighted. So I wanted to make sure that everyone has access to well-thought out materials for learning these building blocks.
