About the Flower Bracelet

I designed this flower bracelet as one of my initial experiments with Honeycomb beads. I love the way they look when they are joined together to tessellate into the honeycomb pattern.

My first set of honeycomb beads were sent by the Beadsmith as part of my work for the Inspiration Squad. So, the colours I received played a big part in this design.

As soon as I had the flower motif, I knew that I would be turning it into a flower bracelet. The red and black colouring makes these look a little like beaded poppies. Then I wanted to add something to the edges of the flower bracelet. I knew this edging had to replicate the flower image. So, I found a way to create a Peyote stitch edge.

This edge is worked in odd count Peyote. As the initial rows sit against the flat edge of the Honeycomb beads, it can be a little tricky to start. So I recommend that you already feel happy working in odd count Peyote before you try this project.

I have also included two different pattern suggestions for this edging, so you can get a little creative and choose your own design.

Note on Materials

I have used Miyuki brand seed beads for this project. So, I would suggest that it is a good idea to stick to this brand. I have found that there is some slight size variation between seed bead brands. This project needs a precise fit so that the Peyote section will sit correctly along the flower bracelet.

You also need Honeycomb beads in two different colours, and Superduos.

You will also need to choose your thread carefully. The way in which the Honeycomb beads sit together means that the thread is slightly more visible in this area than it might be in some stitches. I used crystal fireline as I find this blends well with all the different beads.

Finally, a word on the clasp: this is a magnetic clasp and is concealed in a Peyote tube. I have been very specific about the size and brand of clasp as I chose this for its strength. If you wish to use a different brand, you might find you need to alter the pattern for the tube slightly in order to conceal your clasp.

Alternatively, you can simply attach a normal toggle clasp, or another favourite type if you prefer.
